If you like films about keanu reeves shooting everyone on site with guns….lots of guns, then you’ve had a good few years (unless you watched Matric: Revelations).
John Wick: Chapter 2
John Wick Chapter 2 is a great film, I love Common as Marius (bring him back you cowards) and I love everything else too, except Ruby Rose, just no. John Wick getting pulled back in because he made too much at the box office is fine, the reasoning is a little flawed, why John needed Santino to get him out is odd and why have a marker and then leave, you gotta get that out of the way John.
The action is a good as the rest, retreating through the catacombs and the art gallery are the highlights for me but I think there’s better action in the others as well as a better story. This film did a good job or turning what really should have just been a one and done story into a franchise and for that im thinakful.
John Wick: Chapter 4
I’ve written an article about this film, I think as an ending, it doesn’t work, I hate the recons and how it skips over certain things, I hate that John had to walk blindly through the desert in 3 and instantly finds his man in this one, I hate that the first fight in this is just soooooo similar to the final fight in 3 except with knumbchucks and I hate that the high-table is still not shown or dealt with at all, in any way, even slightly. Winston flips flops from baddie to goodie and Charon dies straight away which is super duper i hate the film Looper sad.
I like the final fight, I like the stairs and the roundabout fight and the duel but I hate that this is how it ends, only now they’ve announced that it isnt in fact how it ends so…theres that. Overall, I like Cane and I like Hiroyuki Sanada in whatever he’s in, he’ll always be Captain Kaneda to me. Fire breath shotgun was cool too. I wasn’t much for the big fella with gold teeth, that whole fight felt stupid and out of place. I think COVID screwed us on this one to be honest.
John Wick
I love this film, it does so much to establish a universe, is a great simple sotry about revenge with an intriguing backdrop and great performances. The vulture is even in it, wut wuuuuut. I love Vigo as a villain, I dont think he’s been topped and I think John goes on a great story himself that does go full circle. The action is great even if you watch it and think, holy shit, that car slamming into him really should have probably killed him….right?
Willam Defoe is awesome too and him dying still hurts so early in the franchise. Overall, it’s easy to see how this started a franchise and a special thank you to Sofia Vergara for saving this film and being a producer, you rock desperate housewife.
I knew from the moment John jumped on that dude, spun in the air and headshotted another dude as he did it that this was gonna be awesome.
John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum
It’s the best one. What more do you really need to know? It’s got intrigue as John ventures into the desert, its got worldbuilding with the minted coin factory, its dog dick-biting-dogs controlled by Halle Berry and it’s got John Wick in a gun museum putting together a revovler from bits and pieces and instantly head shotting a dude with it. It’s ending fight is awesome, the minting factory fight is awesome, the dialogue and the stuff the high-table is doing is awesome, so much happens. Unfortunately a lot of this is undone in chapter 4 but there is still time.
